The Provincial People’s Committee has tasked relevant departments and agencies with implementing comprehensive measures to protect marine resources to ensure sustainable marine development.

It instructed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to finalize adjustments related to the functional zoning and boundaries of the Hon Cau Marine Protected Area and to report on the progress of establishing the Phu Quy Marine Protected Area.

The department will carry out projects to restore degraded coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangroves. It will strengthen fisheries inspections to more strictly combat violations such as encroachment, pollution, and illegal exploitation in protected areas.

All coastal and island development projects must be closely monitored to prevent damage to marine reserves and fishery protection zones, according to the Provincial People’s Committee.

The province will refuse or suspend operations causing serious ecological damage and will intensify patrols and preventive measures against destructive fishing practices and marine pollution.

Coastal localities and the Phu Quy special zone have been instructed to promote environmental and fisheries protection laws, encourage the participation of communities, fishermen, and businesses in marine conservation efforts, and strengthen community consultation and oversight for projects impacting marine resources.

Relevant services and sectors are required to supervise economic activities to ensure they do not negatively affect marine reserves and fishery protection areas.

Bai Can Beach, located in the Phu Quy special zone, Lâm Dông province, attracts many tourists, especially young visitors.

The Provincial People’s Committee aims to increase the area of marine and coastal protected areas to at least 6% of the national total, while effectively implementing plans for the creation and expansion of marine protected areas and fishery resource protection zones by 2030.

The province actively leverages its marine and island potential, focusing on the two key sectors of fisheries and marine tourism to stimulate growth and improve the living standards of coastal communities.

Fisheries are developed comprehensively, from capture and aquaculture to processing and export, while marine tourism continues to grow through popular destinations such as Mui Ne, Phan Thiêt, and Phu Quy.

The province has implemented numerous effective conservation programs and projects, including an annual campaign encouraging the public to protect, restore, and develop fishery resources.

Conservation is seen as inseparable from sustainable livelihoods, and the province seeks public consensus for the implementation of its marine economic development policies.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment will develop a sustainable financial mechanism for the marine protected area and a community ecotourism development plan for the Hon Cau Marine Protected Area, one of 16 in the country.

Established in 2010, the Hon Cau Marine Protected Area covers a total area of 12,500 ha, including 12,360 ha of sea and 140 ha of islands. It is home to 234 coral species and the country’s largest diversity of soft corals, with over 65 genera.

In addition to serving as a nesting site for sea turtles, it also hosts hundreds of species of fish, mollusks, crustaceans, and reptiles, representing a valuable resource for conservation and scientific research.

The province is determined to prevent violations in marine protected areas, environmental pollution, ecosystem destruction, and illegal fishing. It strengthens regional cooperation and develops marine economic value chains related to resource restoration and environmental protection, striving to become a province with a comprehensive and sustainable marine economy.
