ibyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah called for speeding up the procedures for delimiting maritime borders with Malta and Greece, at a meeting held Monday in Tripoli with the National Committee in charge of this issue, according to the government platform « Hakomitna ».

The initiative to delimit the maritime borders with Malta and Greece continues in a regional context marked by an intensification of energy and geopolitical issues in the Eastern Mediterranean.

As a follow-up to the meeting of the Committee in charge of this file, the authorities examined the progress of the work carried out over the past six months. The discussions focused in particular on the ongoing negotiations with Valletta and Athens, as well as on the technical and legal aspects governing maritime delimitation, a sensitive issue for Libyan sovereignty.

As exchanges progress, the chairman of the committee, Mohamed Al-Harari, presented a detailed inventory, highlighting the main blocking points slowing down the finalization of the agreements. These obstacles are due in particular to the complexity of the boundaries in the Central Mediterranean, where exclusive economic zones are subject to competing demands.

Faced with these challenges, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah insisted on the need to preserve Libya’s sovereign rights over its territorial waters, in accordance with the international conventions in force. He called for increased mobilization of technical and legal teams to accelerate the pace of negotiations and secure the country’s strategic interests.

The process is part of a broader diplomatic dynamic, marked by the expected visit of the Greek Foreign Minister to Tripoli, scheduled for Wednesday. This deadline could contribute to advancing a file considered a priority, both for regional stability and for the future exploitation of energy resources in the Mediterranean, an issue also closely followed by several North African countries.
