On Monday, November 25, France and Kenya signed an agreement to strengthen the ties between the two countries, with Mayotte being directly involved, as it is the geographically closest French territory to Kenya.

The Secretary of State for Francophonie and International Partnerships, Thani Mohamed Soilihi, signed the agreement in the presence of the Kenyan Minister for Blue Economy, Mining, and Maritime Affairs, Salim Mvurya, and the Kenyan Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.

Mayotte is the focal point of this partnership, which is why the Mayotte Development and Innovation Agency (ADIM) is directly involved. The Kenyan side is represented by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI).

The main component of this partnership is the Daraja project, which means « bridge » in both Swahili and Mahoran. « This is not just an economic project, but a symbol of the human and cultural bridge we aim to build between Mayotte and Kenya. We are building this bridge to open new trade routes, encourage cross-investments, and offer co-development opportunities to our businesses and talents, » said Zamimou Ahamadi, the 5th vice-president responsible for Finance and European Affairs at the Mayotte Departmental Council.

The Daraja project focuses on sectors identified as priorities for both Mayotte and Kenya, including blue economy, sustainable agriculture, agribusiness, digital technology, innovation, and tourism. « These sectors are key drivers not only of growth but also of social and economic transformation for our populations, » added Zamimou Ahamadi.
