Plan Bleu, the Regional Activity Centre of the Mediterranean Action Plan/United Nations Environment Programme, and La Saison Bleue are pleased to announce the organization of a workshop on MED 2050 Transition Pathways.

This event, taking place in Tunis on February 26-27, 2025, will bring together Tunisian experts and stakeholders to discuss sustainable development challenges for their country and territories.

The MED 2050 foresight exercise, launched in 2019 at the request of the Barcelona Convention countries in a context of rapidly accelerating threats to the Mediterranean, is a long-term initiative with three main objectives:

  • Anticipating changes in Mediterranean ecosystems, particularly marine ecosystems, over the next three decades and determining conditions for their long-term resilience.
  • Providing insights to guide the region’s transition toward sustainable development essential for protecting these ecosystems.
  • Identifying major risks of crises or disruptions and preventing those that could negatively and decisively impact the previous two objectives.

The Tunis workshop marks an important phase in this exercise: exploring transition pathways. Based on two MED 2050 scenarios chosen by the participants, the workshop will aim to identify possible priority actions to be implemented at short, medium, and long-term horizons to move toward the desirable scenario and/or avoid the less favorable one.

This one-and-a-half-day workshop will conclude with a summary of discussions and recommendations regarding public policies and potential action levers to mobilize.
