The Assault on Science Continues in the United States
NASA, the U.S. space agency, announced on Monday, March 10, that it will shut down the Office of the Chief Scientist, led by Katherine Calvin, along with the Office of Technology, Policy, and Strategy, and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policy branch within the Office of Diversity. In total, 23 people are affected and will leave in a month, NASA told Le Monde, adding that further layoffs are expected.
Katherine Calvin, a brilliant scientist in her forties, was appointed to her position in 2022 by former President Joe Biden to advise NASA leadership on scientific programs and science-related investments.
