The implementation of the aquaculture component of the Natural Resource Management Project in Senegal (PGRNS), with a budget of six billion CFA francs, will lead to a production of 4,000 tons of fish and the creation of 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, according to information from the Director-General of the National Aquaculture Agency (ANA), Tening Sène. « This is an important component of the PGRNS project, as it will allow us to produce 4,000 tons of fish and create 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, » said Ms. Sène.

She was participating in a workshop on upgrading ANA agents on the progress of the aquaculture development sub-component of the PGRNS on Monday. « This component will establish eight centers in seven regions of the country, namely Saint-Louis, Louga, Thiès, Fatick, Kolda, Sédhiou, and Kédougou, over a period of five years, » she further noted.

The Director-General of ANA emphasized that studies are ongoing to assist some actors who were not yet organized to get involved. « We conducted a technical study on the profitability of various links in the aquaculture value chain, as well as on the research aspect, to assess the need for aquaculture support in Senegal for better performance, » she informed. Tening Sène announced another study aimed at developing marine spatial planning in the aquaculture sector, among others.
