Six Key Conferences: A series of monthly meetings exploring the contribution of space technologies to the sustainable management of oceans ahead of the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) to be held in Nice in June 2025.

Ocean and Space: A Conference Cycle Supporting Innovation

As part of UNOC 3, which will be held in Nice in June 2025, Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, CNES, and CDMM are launching an ambitious awareness program called « Ocean and Space. »

This series of conferences, a cornerstone of the #RoadtoUNOC project, aims to explore how space technologies can enhance the sustainable management of oceans and the preservation of biodiversity.

Monthly Meetings for a Forward-Looking Vision
The conferences will take place once a month at the Maison des Associations, Place Garibaldi in Nice, from November 2024 to April 2025, with various themes and renowned speakers:

  • Tuesday, November 26, 2024: ODYSEA: Currents in the Wind with Fabrice Ardhuin, on satellite innovations for measuring wind and currents. ➡️ Registration link: Register here
  • Tuesday, December 10, 2024: The Color of Water Seen from Space with David Doxoran, on monitoring climate change impacts.
  • Wednesday, January 22, 2025: Mercator Ocean International with Fabrice Messal, on digital tools for the oceans.
  • Thursday, February 20, 2025: Coastal Resilience and Satellite Data with Imen Turki, exploring the impact of satellites on coastlines.
  • March 2025: 30 Years of Space and Climate Data by Benoît Meyssignac, an essential climate perspective.
  • April 2025: SWOT: Satellite and Water Cycle with Yannice Faugère and Delphine Leroux, offering an innovative look at the oceans.

These conferences will also be available online via YouTube on the CNES channel, expanding their reach to an international audience.

An Educational and Inclusive Program
The conference cycle is part of a comprehensive awareness campaign. Key initiatives include:

  • A public day at Parc Phoenix (May 24, 2025), hosted by the « Esprit sorcier » team.
  • A week of activities for students (May 24 – June 4, 2025), combining workshops and exhibitions on maritime careers and space technologies.

Towards a Sustainable Blue and Green Economy
This program goes beyond awareness: it also feeds into the economic and scientific ecosystem of the region. By positioning Nice as a hub for maritime and space innovation, these events boost its attractiveness to talents, investors, and businesses in the blue economy sector.
