The Malagasy Minister of Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Paubert Tsimanaoraty Mahatante, proudly represented the Great Island. He was awarded the prize for Best Minister of the Blue Economy in Africa for his efforts and commitments in developing a dozen policies and strategies for the development of the blue economy in Madagascar, his strong involvement in their implementation, and his continental leadership in setting the right model for youth training, combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, as well as ensuring good governance and transparency in the sector in Madagascar.
The first African Youth Forum was organized in Lomé, Togo, in West Africa, in close partnership with, among others, the World Ocean Council and the West African Development Bank from July 25 to 27, 2024. Several activities were conducted, including exhibitions at stands, B2B meetings, panel discussions on various topics related to the blue economy and youth employment, and visits to aquaculture sites. There were also exchanges on how to encourage and engage African governments to design sound policies for the development of the blue economy on the continent.
The Pan-African Youth Organization for the Blue Economy (OPJEB) was established in 2016 in Lomé, Togo. It is an organization that brings together committed young people from several countries across Africa.
