Madagascar represented at the African Youth Forum on the Blue Economy in Lomé, from July 25 to 27, 2024.

The Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Paubert Tsimanaoraty Mahatante, is making a name for himself on the continental stage. His leadership is increasingly confirmed. In fact, he is the winner of the African Leadership Award for the Blue Economy. The prize will be awarded at the Forum des Jeunes Africains sur l’Économie Bleue in Lomé, from July 25 to 27, in recognition of the efforts of the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy. It is also a reward for the results achieved by Minister Paubert Tsimanaoraty Mahatante for what he has undertaken within his department since his appointment. In any case, this award confirms the country’s international reputation as a leader in the blue economy.

For an island like Madagascar, this is information of particular importance. Indeed, Paubert Tsimanaoraty Mahatante has already proved his worth. Since April 2018, he has served as Secretary General of SANSAFA/SADC, a platform of non-state actors in fisheries and aquaculture within SADC. In this role, he has contributed to the formulation, implementation and monitoring of policies and strategies for the fisheries and aquaculture sector, while raising awareness, lobbying and advocating for these industries. He has a solid academic background.
