Tunisia once again positions itself as a key player in maritime security in the Mediterranean. From November 4 to 15, our country is hosting the multinational naval exercise « Phoenix Express 24. » This annual event, held under the auspices of the U.S. Africa Command (US Africa Command), brings together more than 1,100 military personnel and observers from 12 nations.

Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Turkey, Italy, Malta, Belgium, Georgia, the United States, and Tunisia are joining forces for ten days. This unprecedented cooperation aims to strengthen the operational capabilities of the participating navies in addressing the common challenges facing the Mediterranean. Smuggling, human trafficking, piracy… the threats are numerous and require a coordinated and effective response.

Nine military vessels will patrol the Tunisian coast for intensive practical exercises. The program includes naval maneuver training, sea rescue simulations, live-fire exercises, as well as information exchanges and sharing of best practices. These maneuvers will help the sailors strengthen their cohesion and sharpen their combat techniques.

In addition to the at-sea operations, a theoretical component will complement the training. International experts will lead conferences and workshops on various topics such as maritime intelligence, marine pollution control, and international maritime law. The goal is to equip participants with tools to better understand the challenges of maritime security and to act in a more coordinated manner.
