The French company Ponant has announced an unprecedented navigation project: a complete tour of the Antarctic continent aboard its icebreaker ship, Le Commandant Charcot.
This 18,000-kilometer journey is set to begin in January 2028 from Ushuaia, Argentina. It will span three months and conclude in March of the same year. The ship, which can accommodate up to 245 passengers, will be jointly commanded by Captains Étienne Garcia and Patrick Marchesseau, who are the masterminds behind the itinerary.
Along the way, passengers will have the opportunity to participate in various exploration activities: Zodiac outings, snowshoe hikes, kayaking excursions, and even the traditional « polar plunge » in the icy waters.
Reservations for this expedition are expected to open in December. No pricing has been announced yet.
« The spirit of Ponant Explorations is based on these shared moments where we witness the great natural forces at work, » said Captain Garcia. « It is a privilege to guide passengers in this respectful relationship with the elements – the wind, the sea, the ice – and to bring them as close as possible to the wonders of the natural world. »
