JAKARTA – The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has stated that ratification of the Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems Act (KSDAHE) can improve the effectiveness of conservation area management, including protection against various species in the waters.

KKP Secretary General Rudy Heriyanto Adi Nugroho said that with the adoption of the revision of Law No. 5 of 1990, the authority to manage and determine conservation areas in waters, coastal areas and small islands was now fully implemented by the KKP.

The reorganization of the KSDAHE Act strengthens the basis for the KKP’s duties and responsibilities in implementing the KKP’s priority program, the blue economy, for the expansion of conservation areas and effective management.

« There is a certain strengthening of the responsibility of the KKP whose objective is the effective management of conservation areas and their living natural resources. We are in the KKP ready to execute as regulated by law, » he said, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday July 17.

In addition to the management and determination of conservation areas, he continued, the KSDAHE law also requires that certain plant and wildlife conservation activities in marine water habitats located in natural asylum zones and nature conservation areas be carried out in accordance with the provisions of marine and fisheries laws and regulations.

Including, conservation management of fish species and other marine biotaits is carried out by the Ministry of Marine and Fisheries.

He also emphasized KKP’s role in the conservation of fish species as regulated in fisheries laws and regulations.

Meanwhile, the head of the KKP’s legal office, Effin Martiana, added that procedures for determining and managing conservation zones in waters, coastal areas and small islands, as well as the conservation of certain wild plants and animals in aquatic habitats, will be regulated by government regulations.

His party and other ministries are preparing regulatory points for the derivatives in question.

« The details of the management of conservation areas and water biotas will be regulated by government regulations. It is important to properly protect conservation areas and water bioté and their use is done wisely to be sustainable and durable, » he said.

On July 9, the House of Representatives passed the KSDAHE bill. One of the amendments is the abolition of Chapter 10 concerning the surrender of business and assistance tasks.

For the purposes of conserving natural resources and their ecosystems, the government may refer part of the business in this area to the local government within the meaning of Law No. 5 of 1974 on the main governments of the region.
