The naval forces of Senegal and Mauritania carried out their second joint maritime patrol, called « MUSTARAKA, » on February 7 and 8, demonstrating their shared commitment to maritime security in the region.

The operation, whose name means « joint » in Arabic, is part of a cooperative effort between the two nations to monitor and protect their shared territorial waters. It follows a successful first edition in August 2024.
According to the Senegalese Navy, « this operational cooperation activity aims to address common maritime challenges, » including combating illegal fishing, drug trafficking, and piracy. The patrols cover the entire maritime border area between the two countries.
In a regional context marked by growing insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea and West African coasts, these joint maneuvers are a strategic response to the threats facing the maritime sovereignty of both states.
This second edition of « MUSTARAKA » reaffirms the commitment of Senegalese and Mauritanian authorities to strengthen their partnership in defense and maritime surveillance. It also marks a further step in coordinating military actions to better secure their shared waters.
