Dagana, Dec 16 (APS) – The Director of the National Aquaculture Agency, Samba Ka, announced on Monday the establishment of a fish feed manufacturing plant in Bokhol, in the Dagana department, with a capacity of 3,000 tons per year.
In partnership with a local company, « The National Aquaculture Agency is working on a project to create a fish feed manufacturing plant in Bokhol, » Mr. Ka informed, on the sidelines of a fish harvesting day organized at the « Nattal de Mbolo » farm, an initiative of the Dagana municipality.
This plant, with a capacity of 3,000 tons per year, is expected to help solve the problem of purchasing fish feed, which « costs extremely high, » said the director of the ANA.
This plant will « relieve the State of Senegal from buying feed, » he said, while also mentioning the prospect of « creating many more revenues in the sector. »
According to Samba Ka, this project is part of a program to « equip each region of Senegal with a hatchery to contribute to the development of the aquaculture sector. »
« Many jobs will be created through this project, which will help generate more income for the stakeholders, » the ANA director further emphasized.
He recommended « integrating aquaculture into agricultural farms to limit the use of chemical fertilizers in plantations, thus reducing the high costs of investments in the agricultural sector. »
He also encouraged local authorities to « take inspiration » from this initiative by the Dagana municipality, which aims to create more jobs for youth and women through the establishment of integrated agricultural and aquaculture farms.
