French shipping and logistics company CMA CGM has signed a partnership with Google (Alphabet) to accelerate the deployment of AI solutions in its operations worldwide, the two companies announced on Thursday.

CMA CGM aims to increase efficiency and shorten delivery times by optimizing routes, container handling and inventory management, while minimizing costs and carbon emissions.

Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM, described the partnership as a « crucial step » in his company’s transformation strategy.

Sébastien Missoffe, Managing Director of Google France, said Google’s « infrastructure, data expertise and long-term approach to AI » would help CMA CGM grow.

CEVA Logistics, the group’s logistics arm, will use Goole’s AI-based management tools to better predict and plan operations in its warehouses thanks to volume and demand forecasts.

The media arm of CMA CGM, which holds a stake in private French broadcaster M6 and bought France’s leading 24-hour news channel BFM TV earlier this year, will be looking to create tools that enable its journalists to synthesize and translate documents, generate media clips for social networks, and facilitate archive digitization and research.
