The congestion of fishing vessels at the Sidi Mansour port in Sfax has hindered the completion of its development, said the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, Izzedine Ben Cheikh, on Tuesday at the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP).

In response to a question from Deputy Tarek Mahdi regarding the development of the Sidi Mansour fishing port and the regularization of the situation for the boats, the minister emphasized that this port ensures the safety of fishing vessels and allows fishermen to unload their products easily, despite the fact that it has not yet been fully operational.

He added that the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture is expected to officially receive the Sidi Mansour fishing port project by the beginning of 2024.

It is important to recall that the construction of the Sidi Mansour fishing port, which began in 2016, has led to an environmental issue, particularly concerning the flow and ebb of the sea, which has provoked protests and anger from fishermen and some local residents.
