CAIRO, 11 November 2025 (ADI) – The Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (DPFZA) presented in Cairo, during the 30th General Assembly of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), the project for the Djibouti Regional Maritime Academy, which was unanimously approved by the member states.

Held on the sidelines of the 38th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Transport at the Al Manara Conference and Exhibition Center, the meeting sealed a strategic partnership between the AASTMT and the DPFZA. This future academy, to be established in Djibouti, will train managers and technicians in the maritime and port sectors, serving the entire region.

Designed as a center of excellence, the institution aims to strengthen skills in maritime professions, support applied research, and contribute to the modernization of port operations in the Horn of Africa. It will fill a major gap in a region where maritime transport remains a key driver of trade and regional connectivity.

“This project embodies the shared vision of an Africa capable of training its own experts and mastering its logistical flows,” a DPFZA representative told ADI, praising the unanimous support of Arab countries.

This decision is part of Djibouti’s strategy to consolidate its role as a maritime hub between Africa, the Arab world, and Asia. By hosting this new academy, the country strengthens its influence in training, innovation, and the development of maritime skills serving the African continent.
