If our planet is nicknamed the “blue” planet, it is because of the composition of its atmosphere but also because more than 70% of its surface is covered by seas. Or more precisely of a sea, the world ocean, all the parts of which, whatever the names humans have given them, communicate with each other. Planet Earth is in reality the planet “Seas” and the role that the global ocean plays in the climate appears more important and decisive for our future every day. It is also by sea that people and goods circulate, allowing economies to develop.
From the appearance of liquid water, more than 4 billion years ago, to diving robots exploring the abyss, this work retraces in 100 dates the eventful history of the ocean and its exploration.
