Zakia Driouich, Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, in charge of Maritime Fisheries, visited the Halieutis Exhibition site on Friday, January 10, 2025, to assess the progress of the final preparations for the organization of this seventh edition.
Organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the 7th edition of the Halieutis Exhibition will be held from February 6 to 9, 2025, at the Exhibition Park in Agadir, and will open to the general public from February 8 to 9, 2025.
Under the theme « Research and Innovation for a Sustainable Fisheries Sector, » this edition reflects the Kingdom of Morocco’s firm commitment to making scientific research a strategic lever, ensuring the sustainability of marine resources and the competitiveness of Morocco’s fishing and aquaculture industries.
The event will bring together key players in the fishing, seafood processing, and aquaculture sectors, as well as marine research, thus reinforcing the significance of this major event on the international fisheries scene.
At the end of her visit, the Secretary of State emphasized that this flagship event, included in the calendar of major events, will be held on a 20,000 m² area at the Agadir Exhibition Park. It is expected to attract more than 50,000 visitors and will host over 450 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, including 7 new countries, among which 4 are participating for the first time: South Korea, the United Kingdom, India, and the Sultanate of Oman.
For this seventh edition, the interest of professionals has been confirmed, just like in previous editions: as of January 10, 2025, 97% of the exhibition space has been sold, and all the exhibition halls show extremely satisfactory occupancy rates, confirmed the Secretary of State.
During her visit to the exhibition site, the Secretary of State reminded that the maritime fishing sector plays a crucial role in Morocco’s economy and social development, contributing about 1.1% of the national GDP.
The fisheries production reached approximately 1.42 million tons in 2024, with a value nearing 16.2 billion dirhams. It also generates significant foreign exchange through its exports, which in 2024 recorded a turnover of around 27.4 billion dirhams (according to preliminary data from Morocco Foodex), and created over 261,000 direct jobs, including 113,845 direct sea jobs in 2023. « Since its first edition in 2011, the Halieutis Exhibition has established itself as the must-attend event for maritime fishing professionals and as an essential reference for discovering the latest innovations in the sector, » stated Ms. Driouich.
The 2025 edition of the exhibition will highlight a variety of strategic segments:
- Fleet & Equipment: presentation of the latest innovations in naval and sustainable fishing technologies.
- Valorization & Processing: solutions to improve the seafood value chain.
- Innovation: showcasing emerging technologies and sector trends.
- Institutional: involvement of public and semi-public actors for strategic development.
- International: global cooperation and partnership opportunities.
- Sustainable Development: the exhibition will highlight initiatives for responsible and sustainable fishing.
A theme at the heart of the sector’s challenges By choosing the theme « Research and innovation for a sustainable fisheries sector, » the Halieutis Exhibition fits into a dynamic of reflection and action in response to global challenges: climate change, depletion of fisheries resources, evolving consumption habits, and the transition to a blue economy.
This edition will open perspectives to provide concrete solutions that can assist decision-makers in managing the preservation of resources, as well as supporting and guiding the diversification of production. It will also foster stronger partnerships between research institutes, encouraging the sharing of best practices and a shared vision for the future.
