The Minister Adviser to the Head of State for Maritime Affairs, Stanislas Baba, announced on Tuesday the « Year of the Maritime Economy in Togo » for 2025.
Placing the sea at the heart of economic and environmental policies is a priority for the authorities.
The announcement was made during an international scientific symposium on the blue economy, which is being held from November 19 to 21 at the University of Lomé.
According to Mr. Baba, numerous initiatives will mark this year, including the launch of an oceanographic research center and the strengthening of maritime training institutes:
These institutions will offer innovative training beyond logistics transportation, with programs focused on aquaculture, marine energy, and the exploitation of marine resources.
These projects will address key issues such as the sustainable management of marine resources, the fight against hunger, and the energy crisis.
The blue economy is seen as a key driver for Africa’s future. In Togo, this momentum aims to enhance economic competitiveness, create sustainable jobs, and strengthen resilience to climate challenges.
