Is the ocean the master of the climate? How important are coral reefs? Are the deep sea the next frontier for humanity? What are the solutions to plastic pollution? What is the High Seas Treaty? Why is France considered the world’s second-largest maritime nation?

Since the beginning of time, the ocean has ensured our survival by producing half of the planet’s oxygen. It is also our largest climate regulator, absorbing 25% of global CO₂ emissions. Thanks to its ability to store heat, it moderates land temperatures and helps prevent extreme weather events.

Yet despite its vital role, we are depleting it: overfishing, plastic pollution, ocean acidification, increased maritime traffic, and the exploitation of marine resources are jeopardizing not only its balance but that of the entire planet—with potentially unpredictable consequences. The global naval arms race further threatens the ocean, turning it into a playground for world powers.
