To accelerate the transition to a sustainable blue economy, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, ODDO BHF Asset Management, and Altitude Investment Solutions have officially launched a new financial index dedicated to the Ocean, the Blue Economy Index. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals 14 (Life Below Water), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
« Oceans face immense challenges, from plastic choking our seas to the overexploitation of valuable marine resources, » emphasizes Olivier Wenden, Vice-President and CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. « Our response must be collective, bold, and of exceptional scale. When businesses integrate sustainability, they protect ecosystems, reduce risks, attract conscious investors, and ensure long-term profitability. »
The Blue Economy Index, which will serve as a reference for creating bespoke structured products, is an important tool in the strategy spearheaded by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. This strategy aims to combine philanthropy and impact investing.
A Wide Range of Solutions
« In the face of the significant impact of human activities, it is essential to reconcile economy, finance, and the preservation of natural resources to regenerate marine ecosystems and build resilient, decarbonized societies. This index provides a concrete solution for any investor who wants to support companies with strong ESG commitments, contributing to the transition towards a more sustainable blue economy, » said Romain Ciarlet, Executive Director of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
The management of the index has been entrusted to ODDO BHF Asset Management, which will focus on identifying, from a broad range of global stocks, a select group of companies that contribute to the « blue economy. » These companies operate in key sectors for the Foundation, such as sustainable fishing, waste management, plastic recycling, and water treatment.
« We are delighted to contribute to the creation of this index, guiding investments towards companies committed to ocean protection and preservation, » commented Nicolas Jacob, Portfolio Manager, Ecological Transition, at ODDO BHF Asset Management.
