Date: May 17, 2025

For the new edition of Forum 2025, weather enthusiasts or simply curious minds are invited to a day dedicated to weather, focusing on meetings, discussions, and exchanges about a shared passion: THE WEATHER!

9:00 AM – Participant coffee reception

9:30 AM – Opening by Karine DURAND, weather and climate journalist

9:35 AM – Introduction: “Are extreme weather events really becoming more frequent and intense?”
Extreme weather events are more relevant than ever in the news in France: floods, violent storms, destructive hail, storms, and sometimes tornadoes… Keraunos’ mission is to track these events, catalog them, collect data, and explain them.
With Emmanuel WESOLEK and Pierre MAHIEU, founders of KERAUNOS, the French Tornado and Severe Storm Observatory.

10:00 AM – Session 1: « Fire and Ice: How Do These Two Extremes Evolve with Climate Change? » in partnership with CNES
On one side, wildfires are multiplying in parts of the world (Canada, Siberia, Mediterranean countries in recent years…), and on the other side, polar ice is melting. How are these two phenomena evolving with global warming? How do scientists study this evolution (with what tools, new technologies, etc.) and what are the concrete consequences?
Hosted by Karine DURAND, weather and climate journalist.
With Sylvain LE MOAL, Deputy Director of the Space Meteorology Center at Météo-France.
Delphine LEROUX, Head of Hydrology, Continental Cryosphere, and Water Cycle Programs at CNES.
Ugo NANNI, Glaciology Researcher at the University of Oslo.

10:40 AM – Session 2: Special Flooding Session in partnership with Generali Climate Lab
Flooding has been the most striking phenomenon in the past year: torrential rains, sometimes record-breaking, have fallen across all regions of France, showing that the country is completely unprepared for flood risks. Are these torrential rains likely to repeat more often in the future, and how can we adapt?
Hosted by Kévin FLOURY, weather and climate presenter at BFMTV – BFM Régions
With Simon BLAQUIERE, Director at Generali Climate Lab
François GOURAND, Forecaster at Météo-France and polar enthusiast
Pénélope KOMITES, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of innovation, attractiveness, future planning for Paris 2030, and resilience.

11:20 AM – Session 3: Ocean & Weather in partnership with EcoYako, independent and committed media
What happens in the oceans directly influences our daily weather: discover how sea temperatures and ocean currents impact temperatures on land, as well as storms, thunderstorms, and Cévenol episodes in Europe and France. Learn about the technical tools available online to study the ocean and better predict the weather on land.
Hosted by Marina YAKOVLEV, Founder of EcoYako.
With Joël COLLADO, Meteorologist and Honorary President of Météo et Climat, Toulouse-Occitanie branch.
Marina LEVY, Oceanographer, CNRS Research Director, LOCEAN-IPSL, Sorbonne University & Ocean Advisor to the IRD Presidency.
Sébastien LEAS, Forecaster at Météo-France and Radio France.

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM – Lunch Break

1:00 PM – Workshop “Climarisq” to Better Understand the Complexity of the Climate System and the Urgency of Collective Action.
With Davide FARANDA, CNRS Research Director in Climatology, Head of the ESTIMR team at the Laboratory for Climate and Environmental Sciences (LSCE – IPSL).

2:30 PM – Session 4: AI & Immersive Reality: New Technologies in Weather Forecasting and Presentation
New technologies are revolutionizing weather forecasting and TV weather reports! Some channels use immersive reality (TF1) to create impressive sets that allow for new educational videos. Artificial Intelligence is also being used by some weather organizations to improve forecasts. How do these new technologies enhance weather predictions, and what are the future prospects?
Hosted by Juliette QUEF, Journalist and President of Vert le Media
With Louis BODIN, Meteorologist and Weather Journalist at TF1 & RTL
Julie DESHAYES, Research Director at the LOCEAN Laboratory (IPSL)
Jérémy SURCIN, Meteorologist specializing in Artificial Intelligence.

3:15 PM – Contest “The Francophone Cup of Weather Enthusiast Associations”
To wrap up the 2025 edition of the Weather Meet-up, the Forum will be pleased to present, for the second consecutive year, the Francophone Cup of Weather Enthusiast Associations.
This award recognizes associations that have stood out throughout the year for their concrete and committed actions to raise awareness and educate the public about meteorology. Whether through training in schools, the installation of weather stations, or local scientific outreach initiatives, these associations play a key role in transmitting the weather passion to a wider audience.
Three associations have been selected and will present their work:

  • Météo Pyrénées
  • Météo Béziers
  • Météo Nice 06
This key moment will celebrate the dedication of volunteers and highlight the richness of the Francophone community dedicated to weather.

4:00 PM – Cross-Generational Discussion with Climate Advocates
A unique intergenerational discussion featuring climatologist Jean JOUZEL, President of Météo et Climat, Féris BARKAT, Co-founder of Banlieues Climat and cultural activist, and César RLM, hosted by Myriam SEURAT, weather and climate journalist at France Télévisions.
A unique exchange between generations to share experiences and foster collective climate engagement.

Until 5:00 PM – Open Workshops for the General Public
The workshops allow everyone to continue exploring, experimenting, and discussing meteorological and climate issues.

5:00 PM – The Minuit 12 Collective: Creation « Ocean »
Finally, to close these three days of sharing, the Minuit 12 collective, focused on ecological issues through artistic creation and research, will present their work « Ocean ». This committed artwork will immerse us in the world of marine protected areas, questioning our relationship with the ocean, its fragility, and the urgency of preserving it.
