On February 26, 2024, Nabil Ammar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, presided over a ceremony at the Ministry’s headquarters alongside Leila Chikhaoui, Minister of the Environment, for the signing of documents linked to a Japanese investment donation. This donation, amounting to 67 million dinars, is earmarked for financing the construction of an advanced wastewater treatment unit in Gabes.
The Head of Diplomacy proceeded with the Ambassador of Japan to sign the exchange of notes, while the technical document relating to the donation in question was inked by the Minister of the Environment on the Tunisian side and the Resident President from the office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the Japanese side. The ceremony took place in the attendance of representatives of ONAS and the Tunisian Chemical Group, stakeholders in this project.
Ammar presented his thanks to the Japanese government for this significant donation which will be allocated to the creation of an advanced wastewater treatment unit with advanced technology and which will contribute to providing a substantial quantity of treated water and reduce pollution in this region which has long suffered from this problem.
He added that this project reflects the excellent level of bilateral ties between Tunisia and Japan, reaffirming our country’s desire to further strengthen cooperation with the Japanese partner in all areas particularly in priority development projects.
For his part, the Ambassador of Japan voiced his satisfaction with the level of bilateral cooperation and reiterated his country’s commitment to continuing to support Tunisia’s development efforts.
