The French Embassy in Tunisia announced on Thursday morning the call of the ship “Energy Observer” in Tunis, as part of a scientific and media mission focused on seagrass meadows off Bizerte.
Based in Saint-Malo, the Energy Observer is a French hydrogen-powered catamaran, fully energy-autonomous and a pioneer in sustainable navigation. Launched in 2017 and developed in collaboration with engineers from CEA-Liten, it demonstrates the efficiency of a 100% renewable energy system, combining sail propulsion, photovoltaic panels, and hydrogen production through water electrolysis.
This iconic vessel has already completed several round-the-world voyages without emitting greenhouse gases, becoming a floating laboratory for the energy transition and an ambassador for sustainable solutions.
The stopover in Tunisia is part of ongoing Franco-Tunisian initiatives for scientific and environmental cooperation, particularly focused on the protection of marine ecosystems.
