The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, reaffirmed “Tunisia’s unwavering commitment” to pursuing the implementation of its National Strategy for Ecological Transition. This strategy includes integrated plans and ambitious action programs aimed at protecting the coastline, coastal and marine areas, while also developing the blue economy, in line with Mediterranean and African initiatives.
As part of his participation in the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) held in Nice, the minister delivered Tunisia’s official statement. The declaration calls for the creation of a new alliance among Mediterranean countries to address the threat of coastal erosion and protect marine ecosystems. It advocates for the adoption of soft protection methods, nature-based solutions, and the mobilization of the human, financial, scientific, technological, and digital resources necessary for their effective implementation.
The minister also recalled that Tunisia hosts the Regional Activity Centre for Specially Protected Areas (RAC/SPA). He emphasized the role of the Trust Fund for Marine Protected Areas, established in 2015, as part of cooperation programs covering 20 marine and coastal reserves in the Mediterranean.
As a reminder, Mohamed Ali Nafti is leading the Tunisian delegation at the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference, taking place in Nice (France), from June 9 to 13, 2025.
