On the morning of Saturday, May 3, 2025, about thirty fishermen from the Ghannouch delegation, in the governorate of Gabès, organized a peaceful sit-in in front of the local port to protest the ban on sardine fishing.
This activity accounts for 60% of their production, putting the livelihoods of nearly 3,000 fishing families at risk, according to Sassi Alia, president of the maritime development and fishing association.
The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the ban, emphasizing the severe economic consequences it will bring. Tensions have been building for several days, with fishermen calling for prompt intervention from the authorities, while reaffirming their commitment to resolving the crisis peacefully.
The president of the association stressed the importance of finding a fair solution to protect the economic interests of fishermen while ensuring the sustainability of marine resources.
