Marine Heatwave Hits Our Region: Mediterranean Sea Water is Two Degrees Too Warm. This finding was reported by volunteer divers and the Seaquarium of Grau-du-Roi during a night dive on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
For the past year, the Seaquarium of Grau-du-Roi has been organizing participatory science dive outings to catalog marine species and later track their evolution.
On the night of Tuesday, August 20, 2024, volunteer divers recorded water temperatures that were two degrees above the normal range.
Off the coast of Grau-du-Roi, a team of divers set out to explore the outer sandbank of Espiguette. Their goal is to create an atlas of the aquatic fauna living on this sandy coastline and track its evolution over time. However, during this dive, the water temperature was found to be two degrees warmer than seasonal norms.
