The Association “the fisherman for development and the environment” held a meeting on Wednesday to talk about preparations and discuss the prices of these crustaceans, fishing for which is in full swing during the months of May and June.

For agriculture, there are periods for planting, sowing, harvesting and reaping. And therefore, there are also seasons well known by arborists who evaluate the state of maturity of fruits before harvesting and picking such as olives, citrus fruits, dates, grapes, watermelons… The same goes for products of the sea. Indeed, as we know, in Tunisia, fishing is an important economic activity in almost all coastal cities. This means that throughout the year, fishermen do not cross their arms, regardless of the weather conditions. And for each species of animal or seafood product, there is a very specific and convenient period for its fishing, like blue fish, sponges, seafood, sardines, deep sea fishing, the shrimp…

Angry fishermen

Concerning these shrimps, the association « the fisherman for development and the environment », chaired by Chamseddine Bourassine, in the presence of fishermen from the region and all those who have a purchasing relationship, such as the intermediaries of export or factories supposed to market these products, held a meeting on Wednesday afternoon, at the professional fishing school, to talk about the preparations and discuss the prices of these crustaceans for which fishing is in full swing during the months of May and June . The atmosphere was quite tense, due to the price which apparently varies between 25 and 55 D per kg at the moment. The fishermen did not hide their dissatisfaction. They then decided to boycott shrimp fishing, at least temporarily.
