The « Fisherman for Development and Environment » Association held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss preparations and the prices of these crustaceans, whose fishing season is in full swing during May and June.

For agriculture, there are specific times for planting, sowing, harvesting, and gathering. Similarly, there are well-known seasons for fruit growers, who assess the maturity of fruits before harvest and picking, such as olives, citrus fruits, dates, grapes, and watermelons… The same goes for marine products. As is known, fishing is an important economic activity in almost all coastal towns in Tunisia. This means that throughout the year, fishermen are busy regardless of the weather conditions. For each species of animal or marine product, there is a specific and convenient time for fishing, such as bluefish, sponges, seafood, sardines, deep-sea fishing, and shrimp…

Angry Fishermen

Regarding shrimp, the « Fisherman for Development and Environment » Association, led by Chamseddine Bourassine, along with local fishermen and all those involved in purchasing, such as export intermediaries or factories supposed to commercialize these products, held a meeting Wednesday afternoon at the fishing vocational school to discuss preparations and the prices of these crustaceans, whose fishing is at its peak during May and June. The atmosphere was quite tense due to the price, which apparently ranges between 25 and 55 Tunisian Dinars per kilogram at present. The fishermen did not hide their dissatisfaction. They then decided to temporarily boycott shrimp fishing.
