Morocco is preparing to complete the construction of the terminal of the new port of Nador, a major project which aims to propel the country to the rank of leader in maritime transport in the Mediterranean.

The port of Nador (Nador West Med) is positioned as a real challenger to the ports of Algeciras and Valencia in Spain. Its strategic location on the Strait of Gibraltar and its capacity to accommodate large ships give it a major advantage.

The new port will consist, in its first phase, of a main dike of 4,200 meters and a secondary dike of 1,200 meters. Industrial, logistics and service zones, as well as a container terminal, an oil terminal and other ultra-modern facilities will make it a major economic activity hub.

To make it an essential hub, Morocco has already started negotiations with several countries for the management of the terminal of the new port of Nador. The Chinese company “Cosco”, a key figure in global maritime transport, is among the serious candidates.

The development of Nador West Med is part of a global strategy aimed at transforming Morocco into a leading logistics platform. The country already has the port of Tanger Med, which ranks among the largest container ports in Africa.
