The agenda will focus on: the denunciation of the fishing agreement with the European Union, the development strategy for the fisheries sector, and the implementation plan.

The Minister of the Sea, Fisheries, and Blue Economy, Aimé Martial Massamba, has already requested that his teams prepare a complete dossier on these three important topics for the upcoming meeting.

Regarding the denunciation of the fishing agreement with the European Union, the government member has urged the technical teams to act with rigor and proactivity in following up on this critical matter. He also emphasized the need to prepare a detailed presentation framework to allow for a thorough evaluation of the protocol. This framework will be submitted to the Vice President of the Government (VPG) and the interministerial committee for review.

For context, in June 2025, Gabon initiated a unilateral denunciation of its sustainable fishing agreement with the European Union, originally signed in 2007 and renewed in 2021, considering it deeply unbalanced.

The government seeks to regain control over its resources, strengthen economic sovereignty, develop a local tuna sector (processing, infrastructure), and generate more jobs, as current revenues do not cover monitoring costs or the true value of the catches.

The EU has expressed openness to renegotiate on new terms to better meet Gabonese priorities.
