From 9 to 20 November, the Turkish city of Antalya hosts COP31, the United Nations’ major annual climate gathering. Political leaders, scientists, businesses and NGOs come together to advance climate commitments.
La Saison Bleue will speak three times at COP31, in partnership with Circe.med, the network that brings together circular economy stakeholders around the Mediterranean. Its president, Rym Benzina, will take part in each of these sessions.
Why Plastic Pollution Is a Climate Issue
Plastic is not only a waste problem. Its production, transport and end of life emit large amounts of greenhouse gases, and its rapid growth threatens the goal of limiting warming to 1.5 °C. The Mediterranean, a nearly enclosed and heavily trafficked sea, is on the front line.
The Programme
Wednesday 11 November, 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m., France Pavilion
A round table on Mediterranean cooperation as a lever for scaling up the circular economy. The discussion will focus on financing, often cited as the main obstacle: bank loans, extended producer responsibility schemes and support from donors such as AFD, with Türkiye as a case study.
Speakers:
• Aurélie Bernard (ADEME)
• Rym Benzina (La Saison Bleue)
• Corinne Trommsdorff (French Partnership for Waste, PFD)
• Jérémie Bonhomme (Circul'R), moderator
• Jean Billant (Circul'R)
• Tulu Ertem (TSKB)
• Jérémie Pellet (Expertise France)
Thursday 12 November, 1:00–2:00 p.m., Francophonie Pavilion
A presentation of the Circe.med network and its mission: bringing together stakeholders across the basin, identifying innovative plastic waste management and recycling solutions, sharing them from one country to another and encouraging supportive public policies.
With:
• Grégory Le Laurent (Ministry of Ecological Transition)
• Ani Movsessiyan (Circe.med network coordinator, ADEME)
• Rym Benzina (La Saison Bleue)
• Corinne Trommsdorff (French Partnership for Waste, PFD)
Thursday 12 November, 4:00–4:50 p.m., Turkish Pavilion
Join the Conversation
All three sessions are open to COP31 participants, who will be able to talk directly with the speakers and discover concrete solutions for a less polluted Mediterranean.
As a reminder, the COP (Conference of the Parties) is the decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), adopted in 1992.
