The Ministry of the Sea, Fisheries and the Blue Economy (MMPEB) and the Bank for Trade and Entrepreneurship of Gabon (BCEG) formalized a historic partnership agreement on Thursday, April 30, 2026. An agreement that should strengthen the financing of activities related to the blue economy, especially in the fisheries sector.
At the heart of this agreement, initialed by Minister Aimé Martial Massamba and the Director General of the BCEG, Daisy-Helen Eyang Ntoutoume, is the fund « Help me to help you » (FAMAD). With a total envelope of 25 billion CFA francs, this transversal mechanism aims to support the country’s structuring projects.
If the fund covers several priority sectors, a significant share will now be directed towards the blue economy, offering fishing actors, whether artisans or industrialists, unprecedented access to adapted financing.
Modernization and Food Sovereignty
The ambition displayed is clear: to profoundly transform production methods. The funds mobilized will finance the development of continental and marine aquaculture; the creation of critical infrastructure (cold chains, modernized landing sites) and the local processing of products to increase their added value.
By reducing post-capture losses and optimizing logistics, Gabon intends not only to improve the competitiveness of its exports, but above all to guarantee its food sovereignty.
An assertive political vision
This partnership is directly part of the roadmap drawn up by the President of the Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. The objective is to make the blue economy a driver of job creation and economic diversification.
To guarantee the effectiveness of the system, rigorous technical monitoring will accompany each project financed. The authorities have announced that the practical arrangements for access to these funds will be communicated very soon to economic operators, thus marking the start of a sustainable restructuring of the sector.
