On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the opening ceremony of the meeting of the G7++ Group of Friends of the Gulf of Guinea, a high-level consultation framework dedicated to maritime safety issues in the Gulf of Guinea, was held in Paris.
This international meeting brings together several states and partners involved in the fight against maritime threats, including piracy, armed robbery at sea and illicit trafficking that permanently affect the economies and stability of West and Central African countries.
On this occasion, Côte d’Ivoire reaffirmed its willingness to actively contribute to collective efforts, by supporting the establishment of a sustainable financing mechanism to guarantee the effectiveness and continuity of the actions undertaken. The country has also committed to strengthening the process of appropriation of the regional information sharing platform YARIS, considered a strategic tool for the coordination of surveillance and response operations to maritime incidents.
Created in 2013 under the British presidency of the G7, the G7++ FOGG aims to support the maritime safety architecture put in place under the Code of Conduct on the prevention and repression of acts of piracy, armed robbery against ships, as well as illegal maritime activities.
Faced with the persistence of security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea, this initiative illustrates the need for enhanced cooperation between riparian states and their international partners, with a view to permanently securing this strategic maritime space for world trade.
