The degradation of fishery resources, the destruction of posidonia grasshes, marine pollution and lack of control over fishing activities are among the main threats to Tunisian marine heritage, according to environmental activist Abdelmajid Dabbar.
In a post on his official Facebook page, he makes an alarming observation of the situation in the Mediterranean and criticizes the governance of the fishing sector, which he considers marked by a lack of coordination, failures in the application of regulations and a multiplication of strategies without concrete results.
« Currently, we do not need strategies, we need a firefighter who urgently stops aggressions and attacks that will exterminate our marine fauna and flora, » he says, calling for immediate intervention to stop the degradation of marine ecosystems.
More than 34 strategies without coordination
At the heart of his criticism is the management of the blue economy in Tunisia. Abdelmajid Dabbar says that the country has more than 34 strategies in this area, each led by an administration, without sufficient coordination between the structures concerned, or real consultation or collaboration.
He denounces a dispersion of efforts and resources, believing that this multiplication of strategies constitutes a waste of time, energy and money, while the damage to the marine environment requires, according to him, urgent and concrete measures.
The environmental activist also challenges the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries on the place given to the preservation of the marine area and fisheries resources in its priorities. He also criticizes the functioning of the Ministry of the Environment, which he accuses of devoting resources to design offices and experts without obtaining results that are up to the challenges.
