Two Navy patrol boats conducted surveillance and control operations on fishing vessels from May 28 to June 3.
During these patrols, the French Navy intercepted and inspected six fishing boats coming from Suriname and Guyana. They were engaged in illegal fishing and using gear prohibited in French waters.

In total, 19 tonnes of fishery products, 150 kg of swim bladders, more than 25 km of nets, six propulsion motors as well as six net haulers and their motors were seized.
According to a scientific study published in June 2024 , the annual production of illegal foreign vessels is estimated to be between 0.7 and 4 times that of legal vessels. This same report demonstrates that the number of illegal fishing vessels operating in Guyanese waters has doubled in 10 years.
