The Egyptian Minister of Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, spoke with Amy Mara Dièye, Senegalese Minister of Fisheries and the Maritime Economy, on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of maritime transport.

During this meeting, Mr. El-Wazir discussed the guidelines of political leaders aimed at strengthening cooperation with African countries and translating privileged relations between Egypt and Senegal into projects and partnerships in the maritime transport sector, for the benefit of both countries.

He highlighted the depth of historical links between Egypt and Senegal, as well as his country’s desire to consolidate its cooperation with its African partners in the various fields of transport.

The Minister also recalled President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi’s directives to develop cooperation with African countries, promote exchanges of experience and share Egyptian development expertise, in order to support development and economic integration efforts on the continent.

Egypt considers Senegal as an important partner in West Africa, he said, adding that the next step should be marked by the implementation of joint projects in the transport sector, especially maritime, in order to generate concrete economic and commercial benefits for the two countries.

For her part, the Senegalese minister has shown her government’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Egypt and in using her expertise and capabilities in the transport sector, in view of the progress made by this sector in Egypt in recent years.

The two ministers examined several proposals presented by the Senegalese side with a view to strengthening maritime cooperation. The discussions focused in particular on the study of the establishment of a commercial shipping line connecting the ports of Alexandria and Dakar.

Such a project would help increase trade between the two countries, facilitate Egyptian exports to West African markets and improve the access of Senegalese products to the markets of the Middle East and Arab countries.
