An official ceremony was held at the port of La Goulette on the occasion of the reception of the sixth and last tugboat for the Office of the Merchant Marine and Ports (OMMP).
Co-financed by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to the tune of 41 million euros, this renewal program of the tugboat fleet is part of the Franco-Tunisian partnership. It was signed in 2021 at the High Cooperation Committee between France and Tunisia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport.
The six new tugboats meet the most demanding international standards in terms of maritime safety and environmental performance, illustrating a common desire to promote greener ports in the Mediterranean.
Beyond the renewal of the fleet, this program is part of a global strategy for the sustainable modernization of Tunisian ports. This includes in particular the development of the electrical connection of ships at the doch, the improvement of energy efficiency and the solarization of port infrastructure.
The ceremony took place in the presence of several officials, including the Director of the Port of La Goulette, the Director General of Maritime Transport at the Ministry of Transport, the CEO of the OMMP, and Anne Guéguen, Ambassador of France to Tunisia.
