Almotaz Abadi has been the Deputy Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UpM) responsible for Water, Environment, and Blue Economy since September 2022. Between September 2015 and August 2016, he served as the Acting Deputy Secretary General of the same department. During his tenure at the UpM, he led several initiatives aimed at revitalizing the political process around water in the Mediterranean, including the creation of a ministerial declaration and a regional water strategy.
Before working at the Union for the Mediterranean, Almotaz Abadi served as the Director of the Coordination and Management Unit for aid with the donor community and the Palestinian government in the water sector and related sectors. He holds a Master’s degree in Water Resources Management and in Governance, Leadership, and International Cooperation on Resources.
