The municipality of Lacs 3 has concluded a decentralized cooperation agreement with the city of Dakhla (Morocco) to enhance its potential around the blue economy and stimulate its local development.
Concluded for five years, the agreement covers territorial governance, the environment, climate resilience, the blue economy and the enhancement of maritime resources. It also provides support for tourism, culture, entrepreneurship, innovation, youth and sport. Particular attention is paid to the exploitation of Lake Togo, presented as a major natural asset of the municipality.
Located both near the sea, the two municipalities have a strong tourist and economic potential. Lakes 3, between the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Togo, was formerly known as Porto Seguro, « safe port » in Portuguese. The municipality has assets for fishing, market gardening and livestock.
Dakhla is the capital of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, about 350 km from the Mauritanian border, on National Road 1 that connects Tangier to this point.
It has about 120,000 inhabitants.
Togo has had a consulate in Dakhla for 4 years.
