In a major initiative to strengthen the fishing sector in Tunisia, the actors in the sea fishing sector and educational institutions have agreed to set up a specialized training program on the recovery of fishery products. This program will be integrated into continuing education and taught as a fundamental subject.
This decision was made during a workshop organized at the Mahdia Vocational Training Center, where it was agreed that the new teaching programs will have to be adapted to the practical needs of professionals. Particular emphasis was placed on identifying the necessary technical skills and logistical resources to ensure the success of this training course in the country’s sea fishing centres.
The participants in the workshop, under the direction of Moez Hammami, general director of the National Institute of Agricultural Pedagogy and Continuing Education, stressed the importance of this program in the transformation of local practices of recovery of fishery products into a recognized professional competence. This will strengthen the investment opportunities and added value of the sector.
The programme will also aim to assess the capacity of vocational training centres to integrate this programme, ensuring that it meets the needs of the labour market and the expectations of professionals to develop the value chains of fishery products.
